Parotid Gland Removal In Dog. Any Suggestion?

My doberman is scheduled for parotid gland removal at the end of month. Her gland is swelling and collecting fluid/blood. X rays were taken and there is no tumor. Gland was previously drained but it is swelling again. Vet had the liquid that was previously drained tested for cancer, etc. And it came back negative. Was wondering if anyone's dog had this done and how did they do after operation and what was the long-term affect. Any problems with eating, etc. Thank you.

Parotid glands produce saliva. As you indicated that there are no tumors in parotid glands then other possibility is salivary mucocoele in which saliva is leaked from the duct in to the surrounding tissue. Drainage of the mucocoele is not 100% answer. It requires surgery. Surgery is successful treatment with quick recovery. But it can take several days in hospital. After the healing, dog can spend normal healthy life. There are many more tissues which produce saliva and he will have no difficulty in swallowing.
