When Was Shrewsbury Town Football Club Founded?

    Shrewsbury Town Football Club was founded in 1886. Their predecessors, the Castle Blues were successful, but had a reputation for violence, which led to their downfall. Shrewsbury Town FC aspired to be as successful on the pitch, but without the negative image that the Castle Blues carried.

    Shrewsbury Town were founder members of the Shropshire and District League, but later moved on to the Birmingham League at the end of the 19th century.

    In the season of 1949/50, Shrewsbury Town were Champions of the Midland League, which they had played for since 1937. This earned them admittance into Division Three of the Football League.

    Shrewsbury Town have played their home games at the ground of Gay Meadow since 1910. It has a capacity for approximately 8,000 spectators.

    The club currently plays in the League Two division of the Football League. They finished in 10th place at the end of the 2005/06 season.
