What Is The Historical Significance Of The Town Of Roanoke?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The year of 1587 marked the first ever English settlement in North America behold its outset.  The settlement was actually established on an island that is in the geographical vicinity of present day North Carolina.  The leader of this first English settlement was John White who felt the needs for supply to establish a proper settlement decided to go back to England to get those supplies and returned after a period of three years.

Nevertheless it was unfortunate for him as when John White returned back to where he had left his people, he found no one there.  The entire place was deserted and the only clue that John White got from his people were three letters that were CRO carved on a tree.  It was and it still is a mystery as to what exactly happened to the settlers of Roanoke and where exactly did they go after their leader left them to get supplies.
