               A data warehouse is a comprehensive collection of data that describes the operations of a company. In a typical data warehouse, data from transaction processing and other operations are recognized and put into a form that is optimized for queries. Data mining makes use of the data warehouse by applying intelligent software to scan its content for subtle patterns that may not be evident to management. Put another way, data mining finds answers to questions that mangers may never have thought to ask.
    As you may have already guessed, the amount of data in a data warehouse can be enormous.

               One estimate of the amount of data in Wall Mart's customer data warehouse which contains facts about who buys what a Wall Mart is that it contains at least 43 Terabytes of data. If that data was printed out on regular 81/2 * 11" sheets of paper and laid end to end, it would reach to the moon and back six times.
