How Does Clarifying Differ From Summarizing?

Answer Question

. For example, if you feel confused by what the speaker has said, you might say something like 'I feel a bit confused about that last remark. I think you are saying…' or 'Could you repeat that? I don't think understood' or ' Could you give me an example of…I'm not sure I followed what you said?'
If your understanding is inaccurate, the speaker can then rephrase the response. Clarifying gives feedback to the speaker and shows the listener's understanding of the message. It takes the guesswork out of communication.
But summarizing is used to restate, in a condensed way, the most important points in a long conversation, or to gather points together at the end of a discussion in order to conclude and give direction. As you summarize, present relevant points again, give accurate feedback and tie the conversation together. Use statements such as 'So far we've covered…' or 'You main concerns seem to be…'. Summarizing lets the other person know you understand their thought and feelings. It results in clear communication based on feedback. Both sender and receiver understand the message.

To Clarify is to clear something up so it should be clear to all. It should be elucidated in a way that its length would be increased. It must be explained in a way that it should be crystal clear. It should clear up its original meaning. It should be in simple and forthright English. It must be comprehensible for all sorts of people. Clarifying something is like producing its real meaning in a simple and easy manner. A clarified thing is not just for apprehending but understanding to bits.

But summarizing something is to compile it in one way or the other. It should be reduced from its original length. A summary is also known as epilogue. It may be a short paragraph or two. It depends upon the requirements. A summary can be to the point. It should be comprised of difficult or simple English. It depends upon the demands about how the summary should be. But one thing is sure that it should not be that easy or open for all sorts of people. It is not important that it is clear and easy to comprehend. One can apprehend a summary but not always comprehend it. It is not that clear.
