NASDAQ, the world famous electronic American stock exchange, the first of its kind, began operations on the 8th of February in the year 1971. It started merely as a computer bulletin board system that had no real connection with buyers or sellers and was even quite unpopular among the broker community.
NASDAQ has largely become popular because of trade and volume reporting and as a result of its automated trading systems. It also became the first trading organization to advertise about the various firms that were on its list. NASDAQ was so sure about its success that all of its advertising campaigns in those times ended with the line 'the stock market for the next hundred years.' Over the past ten years NASDAQ has enjoyed tremendous success. In the year 1995, for the very first time in trade history, the index crossed the 1000 mark.
