    Sherwood Forest is an internationally famous country park located near Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire, England. It is a famous destination with tourist and there a number of historic and famous subjects that are found in the park. The park is famously associated to Robin Hood.

    The current 460 acre country forest is just the remaining portion of the forest that once ran through several neighboring countries. The country park was officially inaugurated and opened for the common public, in the year 1969 by Nottinghamshire County Council, which is the official care taker of the park under charter from the Thoresby Estate.

    Around five lakh tourists visit the forest annually. The park also holds the yearly Robin Hood festival, which lasts for a whole week in summer. According to folklore, Robin Hood's primary hideout the Major Oak is also situated in this forest.
