How Long Will It Take For Episiotomy To Heal?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The stitches that are applied to the episiotomy or incision dissolve and the cut begins to heal by about the second week. But the entire healing process can take as much as four to six weeks. Certain Kegel exercises are also prescribed during the healing period. The exercise is generally prescribed to tone and strengthen the area of the vagina. During the healing process the surgical area is to be kept absolutely clean and sexual activity has to be avoided. This is because there is a danger of infection spreading or complications arising. Generally hospitals provide patients with a water spray and an antiseptic spray to apply to the area after urinating. It is now generally held that it is better to avoid this procedure altogether as far as possible.
