What Is A Binary Counter?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

'Binary' is a numeral system that represents numeric values using 0 and 1. This '2-base'system represents numbers using two digits only. 'Bi' means two. Binary means composed or made up of two distinct parts or pieces. A binary counter is essentially a model that demonstrates or assists counting in binary. The specific use of the digits 0 and 1 in this system is what makes it truly unique.

A binary counter works like a computer and is designed to apply this number system to any mathematical problem or calculation sought. In fact, a group of people can become a binary counter! The mechanism adopted is a simple digital circuit that has a 'clock input' and a number of 'count outputs'. This helps to calculate a number of 'clock cycles'. These clock cycles simplify the calculation by splitting up the procedure applied in smaller parts and then assimilating the answers to each in a particular manner. This assimilation results in cracking the most complex of mathematical problems and calculations.

A binary counter may be (1) Synchronous or (2) Ripple. These are specific and as the name suggests, the former solves and assimilates individual answers instantaneously to arrive at the targeted calculation. On the other hand, the Ripple binary counter uses the method of one calculation automatically and rationally leading to the next step. This method of calculation is not new at all and has been extensively used in the pre-medieval and medieval times.
