Ruskin's ruby crystal is probably best known as the Edwardes Crystal. It was a massive 167 carats of ruby crystal which was donated to the British Museum in 1883 by John Ruskin. He named it the Edwardes Crystal after Sir Herbert Edwardes who apparently maintained British rule in India in the mutiny and anti British feeling which was strong around the late 1870's early 1880's. It can still be viewed at the Museum which si in London, England.
Ruskin is best known in England as a poet, author and he still enjoys a reputation for some of his 'exotic' drawings.

Ruskin College Oxford is named after Ruskin and indeed other academic establishments throughout the world have been pleased to carry his name.
