When Liverpool Won The European Cup In 1984 Who Scored For Liverpool In The Penalty Shoot Out?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

When Liverpool won the European cup in 1984, they beat AS Roma in their own olympic staduim, eventually winning the game on penalties, after drawing the match one all after extra time.

For Liverpool the penalty takers were, first Steve Nichol, second was Phil Neal, third Graeme Souness, then came Ian Rush with the fourth penalty kick, and finally Alan Kennedy took the fifth and what proved to be the decisive penalty.

Out of the five penalty takers, only Steve Nichol missed, when he blazed the ball high over the bar.  The shoot out is probably best remembered for the antics of the Liverpool goalkeeper, Bruce Grobbelaar, who spent the moments leading up to the vital kick for Roma clowning around, with the famous Italian international Graziani, then missing his penalty.  Grobbelaar later claimed his antics were not intended to put off his opponents, and were only designed to keep him warmed up, either way Liverpool won the trophy again for the fourth time.
