Do I Need A Separate Line For Broadband?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are different types of broadband connections available, depending on your location; some areas still do not receive any coverage. ASDL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is the most common. ADSL is a high speed internet, and can be up to 140 times faster than the standard dial up internet. Most internet service providers offer ADSL this broadband connection technology allows you to use your phone whilst online. ADSL uses existing telephone networks; it splits your existing telephone signal into a double signal, allowing voice and data to be transferred.

Other types of broadband include Satellite and Community Wireless Broadband, which is approximately 10 times faster than a dial up connection and works entirely independently from the phone line. An outside antenna is fitted which connects you to a network of community based radio repeater stations.
There are many providers of broadband to choose from including the following: Orange, British Telecom, AOL, NTL, Pipex, Virgin, Tiscali and Toucan.
