Can Carrots Really Help You See In The Dark?

Answer Question

5 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Carrots are loaded with vitamin A, and that is known for being great for the eyesight. In a way, they can help. But don't eat so many that your skin turns orange from them. There are people who are addicted to them, and this is a real condition, but I can't remember the name of it. Sorry about that, hope this helps though.

Every child in the world has been told that if they eat up their carrots they will be able to see in the dark and believe it or not, it's not a myth made up by mothers desperate to get some vegetables into their kids! Carrots contain a substance called beta-carotene, which the body converts into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is the vitamin that helps with night vision. Research has shown that a good supply of Vitamin A, C and E improves your sight and you are less likely to suffer from eyesight problems in old age.
One average sized carrot contains 35 calories, 0 fat, 40mg of sodium, 8g of carbohydrate, 2g of your daily fibre, 5g of sugars, 1g of protein, 270% of Vitamin A, 10% of Vitamin C, and 2% of calcium. Although the carrot was originally considered to be a weed, new research has shown that it may also protect you from breast cancer. By eating carrots as part of a healthy diet you have less damage to your DNA. Damaged DNA can lead to cancers, so keep eating those orange weeds!

No. The saying began in WW2 to encourage people to eat carrots.
