Well before when ballet was first invented it was supposed to be a dance that would entertain the king and queen but back then no one thought of having flowing skirts or anything so the ballet dancers had to dance in big dresses with wigs on their hair and so it must of been hard... But in the romantic period of ballet they made white skirts of lots of layers for the ballets like la sylphide then they made pointe shoes to make the ballerinas look fairy like on their toes
