Where Is Mount Rushmore?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The US State South Dakota is home of Mount Rushmore.  Reaching a height of almost five hundred feet, Mt. Rushmore depicts four US presidents.  George Washington represents the struggle for independence, Thomas Jefferson is the man responsible for the idea of government by the people, Abraham Lincoln was chosen to be one of the faces carved, for his ideas on equality and Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt was chosen for the role of the United States, in the 20th century, in world affairs.  The mountain chosen for this huge task was chosen due to its height above sea level, five thousand seven hundred feet, and for the fact that its' soft granite rock would make carving the heads of the presidents easier.  The scupltor Gutzon Borglum is the man responsible for the mountainside work of art.  He began the carving of Mt. Rushmore on August 10, 1927 and completed the project fourteen years later, at the time of his death, in 1941.  No work has been done on Mt. Rushmore since that time.
