Ever wondered what triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.1 actually does?
The primary purpose of triamcinolone acetonide is to reduce symptoms like swelling, itching and redness that can affect the skin.
As you can imagine, there are many conditions that could produce these symptoms, so triamcinolone acetonide is prescribed for a number of different medical ailments, including:
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis
  • Allergies
  • Rash
What exactly is triamcinolone acetonide?
Triamcinolone Acetonide is one of a group of drugs that mimics the actions of the corticosteroids produced naturally in the body.

Triamcinolone Acetonide cream is most often used in the treatment of severe skin conditions like eczema with symptoms such as itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling and inflammation, and which are unresponsive to less powerful corticosteroids.

It works by reducing the action of chemicals produced by the body that cause the inflammation, redness and swelling, and is sold under various trade names such as Aricin, Cinalog, Aureocort and Kenalog. Its generic name, though, is Triamcinolone Acetonide.

The 0.1% simply refers to the strength of the active ingredient in the cream - in this case 1mg of active ingredient per 1 gram of cream. More information about its pharmacological nature and action can be found at www.drugs.com/pro/triamcinolone.html

Besides the cream form, Triamcinolone comes in ointment, lotion, liquid and aerosol (spray) format in various strengths for use on the skin and as a paste to relieve the discomfort of mouth sores. In its other forms, Triamcinolone Acetonide has been used to treat swelling of the eye, arthritis and asthma.

Because Triamcinolone Acetonide is a powerful drug, there are side effects that might occur, and an article in Wikipedia warns that it should not be used by those with tuberculosis or untreated fungal, bacterial, viral or Herpes infections without consulting a doctor first.

The treated area should not be covered, and the preparation should not be used for children unless a doctor has prescribed it. It should also be noted that the medication should not be used on the face, near the eyes or on body areas where there are skin folds or thin skin.

Side effects from triamcinolone can include drying and cracking of the skin, acne, itching, burning and change of skin color.

If any of those symptoms are severe or do not go away, a doctor should be consulted. If there are any signs of severe allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, then emergency help should be sought immediately.

It is probably best to consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are at all unsure.

I was prescribed this ointment for my atopic dermatitis (eczema) its basic use is for skin issues such as inflammation, redness, itching, as well as the rash associated with eczema, it also helps with skin infections that usually go hand-in-hand with said skin problems caused by either the skin being open or from the scratching most people do because the itching is soooooo unbearable .

It was prescribed to me for relief of itching caused by scabies.  I was prescribed a different medication to actually kill the scabies, but residual itching can last for days or weeks and the Triamcinolone Acetonide cream provides relief.

You should go directly to a hospital emergency room and let them see you and your swollen legs with the skin stretched tight.then if you have a doctor, go see him / her /them , also on an emergency basis, if you don't have a doctor and don't get a clear understanding of what's happening from the first hospital , go to a 2nd hospital and ask for help. That's what there for.write down in clear printed words what has happened to your legs and when- before you go to the hospital and show it to all

My derm. Prescribed this to me for my eczema. He said to use it once at night. I'm not sure if I want to use it though cause I don't want it to thin out my skin. My skin is already thin from previous steriods. But my arms are severe with eczema and they burn. Guesss I'll just give it a try...

I was prescribed this for "Occupation Contact Dermatitis".  It's caused by repeated exposure to certain chemicals I work with.  Essentially what "Occupational Contact Dermatitis" is, is a type of eczema.

My  doctor prescribed this for Grover Disease.  It seems to  relieve a lot of symptoms, however I have to say that after a month the Grover Disease is still not cured.

I think the cream form is the best lotion (to sum it up) I have ever used! My son had dry patches on his arms since he was born. Now he is 8 years old and the dry patches and bumps are coming back so the doctor prescribed this cream for him.. I think she called what he has as being eczema.. And it makes his skin so soft (mine too!  :-D )

I was prescribed triamcinolone 0.1  cream for my itching and also for my sores on my face and also my entire body. My sores on the face would not scab over and would get better then get worse than before.

I have no immune system from a cronic illness I have and in 2 days of use, my face pretty much healed and the sores on my body are almost gone and im now on day 13. This cream saveed my life, since I was ready to commit suicide for the simple fact that no one knew what was going on and my face looked like it was peeled off by someone with shackey hands  lol.

The cream worked so good for me that now I can chuckle about it today. Well that's my experience with triamcinolone cream. Hope the info helps someone. Thank you for your time.
