What Are The Criticisms For Hip Hop Culture And Clothing?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Although the hip hop fashion and culture became quite popular and still exists in today's world but it did create some negative aspects too due to which parents are not that all happy about it.

With the emerging of hip hop clothing line and fashion, people especially youngsters were more attracted in wearing gold chains, bracelets, ear rings and studs. This was not a norm previously and people became more money crazy than before in order to afford the "bling".

Along with the baggy clothing, which usually had slang written on it, children started talking in the hip hop slang, thus sending a bad message amongst the youngsters. Lines like " Wassup Dog" and " Hello my brother from the other mother" became very popular but when parents heard their children speaking like this it would not make them happy.

People follow hip hop clothing so consciously that they have become fashion freaks. They want to follow all the trends of hip hop culture, such as having all the new hairstyles, shoes, clothes, accessories in order to impress the girls or the boys.

In order to buy the hip hop clothes, a lot of African American children started robbing places and committed street crimes, which became very dangerous for the people living there. Some how experts blame the hip hop culture for making the young people crazy and being violent and care free.

Street wear does not bear slang phrases, but logos. Logo-wear stems from European influence with names like Gucci, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton. I believe children of ALL ethnic backgrounds are more influenced by the culture of instant gratification and the lack of parentally-instilled morals than by a few songs on the radio. Urban culture has just found a way to capitalize on it. And where did 'a lot of African-American children' in particular start robbing places? The problem is socio-economic status, not racial background. I would feel safer in a room full of rich African-Americans than poor Caucasians, Asians, or Latinos anyday.
