Where Is Minnetonka?

    The word Minnetonka refers to a suburban community that is situated eight miles west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County. The word "Minnetonka" is derived from the Dakota Indian mni tanka, which literally means "great water". The city comprises of the attractive eastern tip of Lake Minnetonka, which is also considered to be as one of the largest lakes in Minnesota. The opening of Lake Minnetonka is Minnehaha Creek, which winds all the way through South Minneapolis by concluding at Minnehaha Falls and smoothly flowing into the Mississippi River. Minnetonka is situated 8 miles west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County.

    The city covers a total land area of 28.2 square miles, of which 27.1 square miles comprises of land and the rest 1.1 square miles comprises of water.
