Icklesham is a part of the Rother district in East Sussex, a county in South East England. It is a village and a civil parish. It is a very large civil parish including itself, Winchelsea, Winchelsea beach and Rye harbour. Human inhabitation in Icklesham can be traced back to 772. At that time it was named as Icoleshamme as it appears in a land charter signed by Offa, the king of Mercia. It came under Norman invasion in 1066 and was in threat of being invaded by Napoleon. It is situated on River Brede. It has a 12th century parish church that is dedicated to St Nicholas. It is located at a distance of about 6 miles from Hastings. There is an old windmill that was used as a recording studio by Sir Paul McCartney.
