Who Was Brian Boru?

    Brian Boru was born around AD.940, the youngest of two sons of Cennedig, head of the Dal Cais, one of the royal free tribes of Munster.
    Brian grew up during  turbulent times.
    His brother, Mahon, being the eldest, succeeded their father Cennedig as chief of the Dalcassians.
       Brian had seen many  of the Dal Cais tribe including, his mother, brutally murdered during a Norse raid when he was a child. He deserted  his brother Mahon with a group of soldiers.He spent his life fighting the invading Vikings.
    He became High King of Ireland.
    In 1013, the Leinstermen and the Dublin Vikings revolted against Brian. Mael Morda, King of Leinster, allied himself with the Dublin Vikings and went to war with Brian.  Brian fought them  and defeated them at the Battle at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 However, as the Vikings were retreating, one of their leaders, Bothair, murdered Brian.
