Is Women's Cheap Car Insurance Always Going To Be Available?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There have been a few challenges to the concept recently on the grounds of sex discrimination, with arguments reaching as far as the European Court. Whether car insurance for women survives in its present form is currently open to debate.

What will not change, however, is the notion that car insurance companies can offer cheaper insurance policies to those drivers who statistically and historically represent the lowest risk. Not to reward those drivers for careful driving would, on the face of it, be contrary to natural justice; it would be unfair to expect those drivers who drive carefully and claim-free to subisidise those with a poor driving record. That said, it can be argued that that is exactly what is happening already when car insurance premiums go up across the board to offset heavy car insurance claim pay-outs.

It may be some time yet before we see wholesale change in the car insurance market or the business models adopted by insurers. On the face of it, switching to a pay-per-mile basis is substituting one blunt instrument with another.
