Why Is It Bad Luck To Kill A Ladybird?

Answer Question

Well really it could be considered bad luck to kill any living creature as it is not a nice thing to do. Many cultures and religions have different ideas on this subject, some religions sacrifice animals to their higher power as a mark of respect, whilst others do not harm any living creature in any way, shape or form. In Germany it is believed that the ladybird, like the stork, delivers newborn children to their homes. An old rhyme that children still sing when a ladybird lands on them is "Ladybird, Ladybird, fly away home, your house is on fire, your children will burn" – not a very nice poem but it is believed that the direction the ladybird flies in is where the child will find love and friendship in future years. Ladybirds are considered lucky and fortuitous, people decipher the time of day, degree of danger or length of lifespan by counting the number of black spots on the ladybird's back. It is also said that if you find a ladybird in your house you will receive the number of £ matching the number of spots. In America Ladybirds are known as Ladybugs. A Ladybird is a descendant of the Scarab Beetle which is considered sacred in Egypt. It is believed that if you kill a scarab beetle, thousands more will be born and maybe this is another reason it is deemed bad luck to kill a ladybird.
