Neurosis can be termed as a disease of the mind, wherein one faces any of several disorders. These disorders could be either psychological or emotional or both. Examples of such disorders are Neurasthenia, Hypochondria etc. They can erupt without any warning whatsoever. Symptoms for such disorders include nervousness, depression, illogical worries etc. Moreover, symptoms of a psychotic nature such as hallucinations do not arise in this particular disorder.

It is a milder mental disorder than that of psychosis, though it has effects on the individual behaviour. Psychologists consider such disorders to stem from reactions towards stress, which have become inborn due to habit.

According to Freud, neurosis stemmed from conflicts which were of an internal nature, thus leading to stress and anxiety.
