There are certain important guidelines that should be considered when thinking about such a career. Firstly, it is easy to be sucked in by adverts in newspapers and magazines offering 'piece work' for apparently respectable salaries. These are generally fraudulent. Companies who genuinely employ workers to do jobs like these almost always have a waiting list, and therefore do not need to advertise. Similarly, any advert which asks you to pay to join the scheme is almost certainly a scam.

It should also be remembered that homeworkers are still entitled to the National Minimum Wage. Your employer should pay you at least the minimum wage for all the hours you do or, if you are doing piece work, for 120% of the hours it would take a normal employee to do your job.
