It partly depends on what type of ink. Some inks don't come out.
Aerosol hairspray works well on ballpoint pens. Spray it on, watch the ink rise up.
Blotting the area with rubbing alcohol, then rinsing in cold water, works too. I've done that on cotton uniforms. Some say nail polish remover works, but I've not tried it.
Never simply wash it and dry it. Once it goes through the dryer, the ink is set into the fabric. Cleaning it while still wet is best. Hope this helps.
