Do I Use Dehumidifier In The Basement Before I Clean The Walls? They Have Mold On Them.

I found out my child is allergic to mold and could not figure out why she couldn't get rid of her stuffy nose and always complaining of a stomach ache and then found mold on my basement walls.

It is important that you remove all the traces of the mold from the walls before you use the dehumidifier in the basement. This is because the mold has covered the walls and the dehumidifier will not work on the walls if they have mold on them. So clean the mold and then use the dehumidifier.

The trouble is a de-humidifier will not get rid of any existing mould on the basement walls but it will help reduce the amount of moisture in the air. To get rid of the mould i would suggest a mould removal spray and a bit of elbow grease. If that doesn't work then a process we use in the U.K called tanking is required.
This is basically hacking out your basement wall and applying a sand and tar acrylic to the wall and then a membrane on top of that then rebuild your wall over that and then have it rendered
