A part of a computer's memory is random access memory which is a form of silicon chips. Program and data are always loaded into this memory. Random access memory is one in which the contents can always be over-written. Secondly the access time of any memory location is independent of the location address. This form of memory is called semiconductor memory because it is made from semiconductor material. A semiconductor material is one which is used to make transistors and integrated circuits. One of such materials commonly used is silicon. This type of memory provides increased storage capacity and low access time. Each memory location is capable of storing 32 bits which we call a word.

Program instructions and data values are loaded in random access memory. So if a computer has 64kilo byte memory it will have 64x1024 addressable locations. The data items stored in each location will be 32 bit and address of each location will be 16 bits or 4 hexadecimal digits referring to our discussion of MAR and MBR in the previous section the contents of MAR will be 16 bits and that of MBR will be 32 bits. How ever there are two types of ram one is dynamic ram and second is static ram.

Random Access memory is working in computer,Random Access Memory provides space for your computer to read and write
data to be accessed by the CPU . When people refer to a
computer's memory, they usually mean its RAM.
