Here are some of the things that you may learn/practice in a typical driving lesson.
- Car Controls
In order to control your car, you must learn how to use its various controls and functions properly. Many learners are extremely wary of the car in the first few lessons, mainly because it can feel as though the car is controlling you. You will begin to feel less nervous as you learn to confidently do the following:
- Changing Gear
You will learn how to use gears in a manual car, and could learn when to change gear in different situations, such as in adverse conditions. Gears help to control speed and manage the efficiency of the car's engine.
- Mirrors, signalling and manoeuvring
Your instructor will teach you to use your mirrors (both rear and side view) to help you to signal when manoeuvring the vehicle.
- Using mirrors correctly
You will learn when to check your mirrors in different situations, for example when you are about to brake, change direction or perform a manoeuvre.
- Use of the handbrake
Lessons will teach you how to use the handbrake, and why it should be used in certain situations as oppose to just applying the footbrake.
