You should really get it done at a piercing studio as they know what they're doing and their equipment is always sterile. But when i had mine done the first time it still got infected and i took good care of it so if it gets infected it gets infected but you can help by cleaning it a few times a day with savlon or another antiseptic or with warm salt water. I really wouldn't do it yourself but if you do make sure the needle and the piercing have been sterilised.
