Is The Novel Firecracker By Sean Stewart Any Good?

Answer Question

      I liked it.

It's not going to light the world on fire, but it's a good read.

It's quite a sad-funny portrait of simple people in Houston (pure Texans).  They do all-American things like throw barbecues for massive extended family, hold down cruddy jobs, go shooting or argue about shooting, try to shun strange relatives with criminal habits, win and lose in love.

In the midst of all these ordinary guys and gals is Will Kennedy, dubbed "Dead Kennedy" by his now dead cousin AJ.  Will is pretty much like the rest of his Texan relatives... except that he can see ghosts.Everywhere he goes. They sometimes talk to him, too.  Will can't even drive a car because he can't see from a distance well enough if a person crossing the road is alive or dead.

Oh, and he feels an icy chill when he has contact with them.  And other than that he's an ordinary guy, with a string of dead-end jobs behind him, an ex-wife and a kid he's devoted to.

There's more, about how Will acquires his very own ghost to haunt him, and how he has to get used to it.  But best read the book if you want to find out more.
