There are many separation techniques used at home. Some of these are hand picking, percolating or sieving, thrashing, winnowing, and filtering. Hand picking is the most common separation technique as all of us do this almost every single day. At home we sort clothes, edibles etc and all this is done by handpicking. The next technique is percolating filtering. We use this every day to make tea or coffee. We use a percolator to separate the liquid part from the solid tea leaves or coffee seeds before we drink it. Filtering is also a very common technique used at home.

Almost every home has a water filter today that separates the solid particles in the water to yield pure water free from dirt or sand. Some homes also have air filters to filter in clean air. Thrashing is sometimes used at home to separate grains that are stuck to their stems
