What Are Some Uses And Classifications Of Acids?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Countless industrial processes are heavily reliant on the availability of acids, which, in turn, forms a very significant group of chemicals.  The industrial tasks that involve the utility of acids are inclusive of production of fertilizers and also the manufacture of drugs, plastics, dyes and explosives.  Acids are also used in car batteries and sometimes also in the 'pickling' of steel.

Acids are normally extracted from natural substances.  For instance, there are organic and inorganic acids.  The organic acids like citric acid, malic acid and oxalic acid are found in lemons, apples and rhubarbs respectively.  Also there is formic acid that ants produce as a defense mechanism.  Then comes lactic acid that garners in the human muscles after a rigorous exercise routine.  As for inorganic acids, they consist of hydrochloric acids, nitric acid, phosphoric acids and sulphuric acids.
