How Are Officials Put In Office In Sweden?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Sweden has a democratic system of government and all office holders are elected to office. The Swedish parliament is called the Riksdag (Diet) and it has a total of three hundred and forty nine members. As a rule each party must receive at least twelve per cent in an election district or four per cent of the national vote to be able to get representation in parliament. Seats are distributed proportionately and around three hundred and ten seats are distributed between the twenty nine election districts whereas the remaining thirty nine seats are awarded to be elected on a national basis.

In Sweden it is the speaker of the Riksdag who invites a political party and its leader to form a government. The Prime Minister is appointed and he chooses a cabinet based on the approval of the Riksdag.
