When Was The First Race At Newbury Racecourse?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Newbury racecourse was formed in 1904, with the first race meeting taking place on the 26th and 27th of September 1905.

The winner of the opening race was Copper King, who was ridden by Charles Trigg and trained by Charles Marnes.

Newbury Racecourse has courses for flat races and over jumps, and also acts as a venue for conferences and and LAN parties (people who gather with their computers to network together).

The racecourse has a runway for light aircraft and a railway station, which has very heavy traffic and extra trains on race days.

Between May and September 2005, the racecourse held a number of celebrations to celebrate the centenary. The events included a football tournament, a themed gala ball and a centenary race evening.

In 2006, the racecourse has held 33 racedays (Flat and National hunt), with over £2,000,000 prize money on offer.

The racecourse also boasts a golf course and leisure centre, which provides facilities on race days.
