What Are The Meteors That Landed On Earth?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Meteors enter the Earth's atmosphere all the time (about 6,000,000 every hour). Most of them are the size of a grain of sand and very few survive the journey all the way to the Earth's surface. If they do, they are then termed METEORITES. Difficult tp say how many have landed over the eons, but probably the 2 most famous are the one that struck the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico about 65 million years ago and is widely believed to be responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs and much more recently, the one which hit Tunguska in Siberia in 1908, laying waste vast areas of forest.
