The Manchester Opera House has a total seating capacity of about 2, 000 people. It is a commercial touring theatre. A commercial touring theatre is defined as a theatre that plays host to touring parties or troupes who come to the city from outside to enact such performances as musicals, ballet, concerts, and pantomime shows.

    In fact, there is a very well-known and spectacular performance by a group of touring pantomime artistes at Christmas, which is a highly popular show at the Opera House in Manchester. This show is much awaited throughout the year by the performers and the audience alike. It is the sister concern of the Palace Theatre, another popular theatre in Manchester. The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber was the most famous production to have its premiere at the Opera House in Manchester. It opened in the year 1993 and ran for a period of two years.
