How Do I Find Old Forgotten Debt Information?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Are you referring to your own old debt information or someone else's?  Most debt information tends to be stored with a credit reference agency, but they will only keep their information for nine years or so in the United Kingdom anyway.

Credit reference agencies originally stored the basic details of 'club book' customers, to make sure that they if didn't pay for their goods, they would not be able to order any more.

Across the world, Experian is probably the most famous of these agencies.  They were originally a department of a famous catalogue book.

These days, one can go onto Experian's website or any of its competitors and order a credit reference report, but this will cost you a small amount.

In the United Kingdom, Experian, Equifax and Call Credit are the big credit referene bureaus, in the United States, Experians, Equifax and TransUnion. In India, there is the Credit Information Bureau.
