If I Left A Check For My Landlord Dated For The 1st But He Tried To Cash It Early And All The Funds Weren't There, Can He Require Money Orders From Now On?

My landlord was at the building today, 7/30, and I left him a check for Augusts rent, which was dated for August 1st. He tried to cash it today but the funds were not all there , I get paid tomorrow the 31st. Now he is demanding all money be in a money order from now on. Can he do that?

The landlord can ask for payment in any form he chooses--all pennies if that's what he wants!

I'm surprised that the bank even accepted the check.  They should have looked at the date and refused to cash until the 8-01 date.

The landlord can refuse to take a check and request payment be made in money order form. Most banks have a policy in place concerning post dated checks. If the check slips through without the teller noticing and bounces then it is still your obligation.
