What Are The Biophysical Problems Associated With Cloning?

In recent days, few significant biophysical problems have been identified which are directly associated with the application of cloning. Examples include premature death and age-related disease of some species originated through cloning process.

Dolly, being the first mammal cloned sheep, had been found affected by chronic and progressive lung disease associated with chronic arthritis. Dolly developed premature ageing as compared to the normal one. Scientists have found that Dolly possessed telomeres shorter in size. Apart from that, Dolly had a fragile health condition altogether.

According to the telomeres theory of ageing, it is said that telomeres acts like a biological clock and each successive cell division, telomeres gets shorter in size. After getting shortened to an optimum level, action of telomeres gets interrupted causing the general ageing process to accelerate.

Cloning eradicates the genetic variation property from DNA which is eventually detrimental in future causing inbreeding and vulnerability to rare diseases. It is true that no all the efforts of cloning have been successful till today such as cloning of panda is a failure.
