The House of Tudor was the royal English dynasty which gave five supreme rulers (1485-1603) to England. The dynasty's fortunes were founded by Owen Tudor (1400-1461). He was a Welsh adventurer and he took service with Henry V. Owen married Catherine of Valois, Henry's widow. Edmund Tudor, the son of Owen and Catherine, was made Earl of Richmond.
Edmund married Lady Margaret Beaufort, a child of John of Gaunt of the house of Lancaster. Henry Tudor claimed the English throne as Henry VII in 1485. Henry was Edmund and Margaret's son. Henry got married to Elizabeth, daughter of Edward IV of the house of York.
Red rose of the house of Lancaster and white rose of the house of York combined and symbolized the house of Tudor's rose symbol. The Tudor dynasty continued with the reigns of Henry VIII in the 16th century. Edward VI, Elizabeth I and Mary I were the children of Henry. The house of Stuart ended the dynasty of Tudor in 1603.
