Does Anyone Know The Long Term Outcome Of Immune Medicated Polyarthritis In Dogs?

My dog was recently diagnosed with immune medicated polyarthritis. He is currently on Prednisone x 1 1/2 weeks but still has a white blood cell count of 56,000. He is much better than he was but ,still not 100%. He is a 10 year old Maltese in otherwise good health. How long does this take to go away or does it ever? We are very concerned about the high white blood count still after 1 1/2 weeks. Has anyone dealt with this with their dog? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Immune mediated polyarthritis is a group of several diseases. Fever, joint pain with swelling and lameness are common signs. Sometimes enlarge lymph nodes are also present. It can be erosive or non erosive. There are possibilities that blood values are higher, low or normal.
There is no cure of this disorder. 50% of the cases respond to steroid therapy. While rest can be managed by Imuran and Cytoxin.  Prognosis is good except for rheumatoid arthritis.
