Who Ratifies Treaties With Foreign Countries?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It depends upon the countries, and their pre-determined ratification plicies.  The ratification of international treaties follows the same rules as the passing of laws in most democracies. Exceptions are the United Kingdom and the United States. In the UK, treaty ratification is exercised by Her Majesty's Government. In the U.S, treaty ratification must be advised and consented to by a two-thirds majority in the U.S. Senat (the US house does not vote on or give advice on the ratification). Once the Senate has given its consent, the President ratifies the treaty by signing the ratification.
