Like many captive birds, cockatiels also produce infertile eggs. This is not true for wild cockatiels. You can avoid laying of infertile eggs by putting female to dark area for maximum time and cover her in dark early in the evening like 5-6 pm. This will force the couple to start courtship behavior leading to fertile eggs.

There is no guarantee that all eggs layed will get fertilized in any breeding type of bird.
Unfortunately there are some males who are themselves 'unfertile'
Sometimes the male will sit on the eggs but not fertilize them.
