    Baton Rouge basically is the capital of the State of Louisiana. According to the census conducted in the year 2000 the total population of this region was 227,818 and by the year 2004 it rose to 224,097. It is the second biggest city in Louisiana after New Orleans.

    Baton Rouge is also the main base of the Louisiana State University and Southern University. The Shaw Group is located in Baton Rouge. In the year 1699, French voyager Sieur d'lberville headed an exploration party of about two hundred people up to the Mississippi River.

    The first ever settlement that took place at the present site of Baton Rouge occurred in the year 1718. Currently Baton Rouge is one of the fastest growing cities located in the southern region, not population wise but technology wise.
