To buy a bike you need to make sure what kind of bike do you want, mountain bikes look really cool and all, but if you wont be using them for their built purpose and will be riding them mostly on the normal roads, then it is better to opt for a normal road bike. When you go to the shop to buy a bike make sure that the bike is a perfect fit for you. Make sure you feel really comfortable in it. Check the pedals of the bike, clip less pedals are good, but if you are going to wear shoes its better to opt for double size pedals, as your shoes will fit in them properly.  If you are later planning to upgrade your bike in any way, make sure that body frame of the bike is nice and sturdy. Even if your frame is week, you can first update the frame and then you can upgrade the wheels of your bike.

Buy a Harley for they don't lose much value! So you'll have no problem selling it.
Plus you'll look better and on a Harley you don't have to go fast to be COOL! And the women love to ride on them, too!
