How Is Rainfall Predicted?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Generally the forecasting of weather including rainfall is covered under Meteorology. It deals with the study of the atmosphere as well. Weather forecasting is done these days by using computers which work on numerical weather predictions models. The numerical method or NWP involves the predicting of weather, and this is very useful in predicting rainfall as well, by considering a vast range of factors while preparing weather models using the computer.

Regression models are used that can be potentially applied to general circulation models in order to downscale their outputs for future climate predictions. The point rainfall statistics that they predict are the amount of dry days and rainfall for any site in England and Wales.
The variables that are generally used to arrive at these models are atmospheric circulation variables and geographic variables.
