Research is a vital part of cost effective health care. The ability of the private sector to fund research and reclaim a reasonable (note the term reasonable) profit from the investment in research is fundamental to our health care system. Without research, we would still be "bleeding for a variety of ailments (although bleeding and the use of leeches is making a comeback for certain ailments).
