You should only have to change the filters if you have the right fish. If you get fish that eats the stuff off your bottom of your tank and a sucker fish that eats the algee the you will not have to change the water just fill it up when the water evaporates.

I should have mentioned that the tank is home to two hatchling map turtles and not fish at this point. I do not think the fish can be in the same tank as the turtles since they are omnivores but thanks for your reply.
