Is There A Difference Between An Wireless Modem And An Internal Wireless Card?

When I go to "build" my computer, do I need to specifically look for an internal wireless 'card', or is the wireless modem the same thing? Thank you and have a great day!

"Wireless modem" is often associated with long-range cellular internet providers like Verizon and Sprint.  This is what you would use if you were building a laptop and needed connectivity from anywhere you happened to be.  It is convenient but rather expensive.

Internal "wireless cards" allow you to connect to short-range wireless networks like what you would find at Borders or Starbucks.  Often there are no fees associated with this type of access.  You can also set up your home with wireless internet access for a reasonable price.  I think this is what you are looking for.  You can always add the other if you find that you need it.

A wireless modem can also be a device to connect to the cable (for a cable TV internet provider) or a telephone line (in the case of a telco provider with DSL). Usually you don't have a 'wireless modem' in your computer (but the old ones do have wired modems), but you do have one on your home network. What goes in your computer is a wireless card - to talk to your WiFi network - which has a WiFi router - connected to a modem - and then to your internet provider's line.
