In the book of Jude in the New Testament we are told to earnestly contend for "The Faith" which was delivered to the saints. In this instance it refers to the body of teaching and truth that was revealed by Jesus to his disciples and to the writers of the New Testament (which was primarily the Apostles). It is the embodiment of the truth and teaching of Jesus and His Apostles which we follow today as Christians. When a preacher preaches a sermon it is to be rooted in "The Faith."

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen .  Hebrews 11:1

Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of GOD so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear . Hebrews 11:3

I'll just quote this from the bible. " It will be said to you, let me see and I shall believe, but I say to you blessed are those who have not seen and yet still believe and this is called faith" ( I may have mis- quoted a little, but it's close)
